Hello
Knitters and Crocheters!
Well, we’ve loaded up thousands of care packages in the past few weeks and I’ve
placed a hand-made item in as many of them as possible. We have one more weekend to go and I have a feeling it’s
going to be a very busy one, as many of you are waiting until the last minute to get your items to me! Bring ‘em
on--the more the merrier! Your efforts do not go unappreciated, as you will see below. The troops are very thankful
for you, as we all are at Operation Gratitude!
I would like to express my gratitude for the box from the
Operation Gratitude program. I received a box with a very large card and a hand made scarf from Mrs. Helen---I will use it
Ma’am, it does get cold in the desert. It is overwhelming to know that these wonderful people who we do not know or
may not ever meet in this lifetime took the time to do something for us. It is a big deal and we are all very appreciative
for the things you all do for us while we are deployed. Thank you very much and we at the 1st Armored Division hope that the
time you spend with your family during the holidays are blessed. It is good to know that we and the Veterans are not forgotten.
SFC Cobb, Courtney
Thank you so much for everything,
especially the scarf. Have a happy holidays and God Bless you and your loved ones.
"Phantom Warriors!"
AYAKO AMANDA SATO, CPT, SC
We received an operation gratitude
package today with a home-made hat it in and your email addy. Thanks so much! We are grateful and very appreciative
of all that is being done for us while we are away.
Much thanks,
SSG
Aimee Robeson
I just wanted to say Thank you for the scarf that you made for Operation Gratitude. Everyone
in my shop really appreciates everything that we receive and all the people who support us. The holiday season is especially
hard for us and every package we receive always brightens our day. Again thank you for your support. Have a wonderful day.
SSgt Melissa Beard
I received the scarf that you sent me.
It is very much appreciated especially around now. It is getting pretty chilly here and considering I’m from San Diego
, CA , it is a bit of a change. So thank you very much for working so hard on that for me, it was very thoughtful! It
really is a great thing and your hard work and definite support is clearly shown! Thank you once again for all you have done
for us here and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!
Sincerely,
Phil Skora
Hey, I'm currently over in Iraq and just wanted to say thank you for putting the hand-knit
scarf in the "Operation Gratitude" box. It was a real pleasant surprise especially as it starts to get chilly here.
Hope all is well in the states and we'll continue to do our best to serve all of you back at home!
LT Nachowicz
Thanks for sending a hand made scarf to Iraq. Thought you might want to know
where it ended up. I work in one of Sadam's old palaces - Al Faw Palace, Baghdad, Iraq. Thanks again.
Wishing
you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
God Bless,
Steve
Thank-you very much for the knitted scarf I received in a care package. I absolutely love it! I wear it to the restroom
(yes we must travel outside to restrooms and showers) every night and keep it by my bed for in the morning. I appreciate the
time and care you have given me and so many other Soldiers by this one simple act of love. I grew up in the South, so a knitted
scarf reminds me of home and many fond memories.
Thanks again for your support and kindness....
1LT Pamela A. Sanders
I just wanted to say thank you very much for sending me that beautiful
knitted scarf "with lots of love, and thanks". I just wanted let you know just how much I appreciate the time
you took and effort to make the scarf. To be honest with you I've never had a scarf being that I'm a male, I never
owned one. So I'm babbling here, I'm just coming of a night shift so I'm all so very tired and sleepy.
Anyway once again thank you very much, and please extend my deepest gratitude to all the members that took time to put my
care package together.
sincerely,
SGT Omar
Thank you
very much!! This scarf will come in handy when I get back home. It is nice that people like yourself show support for us over
here, It makes all the difference in the world. The Holidays can be a depressing time for service members, but you just made
one smile! Thank you again.
Your friend, Dale
I am an Australian
Army Officer posting with the US Army in Baghdad, Iraq. I was thrilled to receive the package from Operation Gratitude,
and in particular the scarf that you made for me. The weather is (suprisingly) starting to cool down here, so it will
be very handy for those long cold nights here. We all certainly appreciate your support and well wishes. It really helps
us remember why we are here.
All the best for Christmas, and have a wonderful New Year.
Tony
I want to thank you for the box that was mailed to me. It lifted my spirits very much and
thank you for caring enough to do that. Thank for the scarf that was in there. I have on my bed right now.
SPC(P)PHILLIPS,NICHOLAS
Thank you very much for the card and the hand-knit scarf. They arrived
today in Baghdad, Iraq. If you can believe it, it does get cold here. The scarf will be great to wear back and forth to the
showers. It is always a very rude awakening getting up early in the morning and walking
outside to shave and get
ready for the day. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I have a beautiful wife and 4 kids at home. My three daughters all just
started taking a knitting class. The scarf reminds me of them. Thank you again, and have a very Merry Christmas.
Faithfully
serving,
LTC Kurt Schosek
I just received your care package.
Thank you for your support! It’s really thoughtful of you and the wool cap is handy because it's getting pretty
chilly lately over here. I shared my package with my soldiers and they are pretty happy. Appreciated the support
once again and wish you have a best holiday season.
Sincerely, Sgt. Tran.
I was just writing to let you know that I'm
very thankful for your knitted scarf. It's really nice and definitely useful. I appreciate all your support and your prayers.
Thank You.
Sergeant Guadalupe Navarro
I received my care package
today. I want to thank you for the support you have been giving to the troops. Your packages always come at the perfect
time. Can you let everyone know that they have done a great job and their support is all appreciated! I love the
scarf!! Thanks a bunch.
SSG D. W-R.
Received your hand knit scarf in a care package the other day! What a
wonderful
way to celebrate the Holidays. It will come in very handy as
the cold weather comes in Iraq. I never would
have believed it gets
this cold. I will also use on the ski vacation my wife and I have planned for R&R
leave.
Your hard work is much appreciated and will be well used.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Jason Elbert
Please get all your hand-made items to me by December 30th! Send to:
Sharon Howard
May you have a lovely Christmas (you deserve it), and I will be in touch again after we finish
the Holiday Drive!

Subject: What is with 90's
Ozzy and U2???
Martha,
Now I understand that the show is "Gods of the 80's"
but why am I listening to U2 from the 90's and Ozzy from the 90s? You made the mention of them having medical problems,
if they were legitimate is another story, but with an entire decade to work with why do I hear music that should be played
on the 90s channel? Ozzy has plenty to choose from in the 80s and U2 as well.
Bryan
Aw come on ur killin' me!
Ozzy's from '91 but still
had 80's production, and U2's Sweetest Thing was originally the B-side for Where The Streets Have No Name. Yeah, they
re-recorded it in the 90's, but come on!
Would u be mad if I played
Gary Numan's Cars or M's Pop Muzik, both released in 1979?
But
it's good to know someone's paying attention!
Martha
oh, regarding the legitimacy of the medical stories...as you can see from my links the
Paul Stanley and Ozzy stories are documented, but what-you don't believe Bono had a sunglass-ectomy? check out this link:

Subject: Love you! (still)
Hi Martha!
Is
it creepy to have people you don't know say they love you? Well, then
call me Dr. Creep! Along with millions of
fans, I always thought you were so
cute on MTV... but it was your personality that really knocked me over!
Well,
and that smile... and those eyes... and that voice... and that
quirkiness... and ok I'll stop now before you delete
this email as coming
from some real weirdo! (unless you've already done so...)
So, I'm sitting here at
work, bored, watching YouTube... and a Simpsons clip
comes on and a guy in an info-mercial says, "Thank you...
Martha Quinn..."
and I think to myself, "I wonder what happened to that sweet girl from the
'80s?"
So I ignore the phone ringing and Google you (that always sounds a
little dirty...) I looked you up on Google. AND THERE
YOU ARE!! (may I say,
looking as gorgeous as ever!) And then I head to your website and find your
podcasts...
and your blogs... and just all that yummy "Martha-ness!" (I
don't have Sirius yet, so I'll have to
settle for your podcasts for now) But
THANKS! I've missed you! (in a non-threatening, non-creepy kind of way)
Hold on... I've got to get rid of my boss...
Ok, I don't know what he wanted, but anyway...
So I am so glad to have found you again! I love your show! You're so
entertaining! So funny! So real! (did
I mention that you are still soooooo
gorgeous too? wow! anyway...) Love the music! The memories! You're the best!
All the best to you and yours! Keep up the great fun!
Love you!
An old fan!
Mark
ps
- I noticed another email-er requested an autographed photo... do you do
that? I'd love one too!
Oh yeah,
one last thing... it appears your email at mq@marthaquinnonline.com
does not work... or maybe it's me. ;-)
Hey
Mark!
Wow. Thank you so much for spending so much of your workday composing this e-mail. Ha ha ha!
I was grinning from ear to ear throughout. Dr. Creep is flattering and hilarious! I must have done something right in a past
life to deserve to receive such a note! It's up on my website.
You've inspired me to put the pedal to
the metal in the podcast area. Quick secret though? You can get a free trial listening period at Sirius.com, do it when my
show is on. Better yet, listen at work!!! :)
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for writing.
xoxoxoxoxoxo,
Martha
p.s. You're
right, my e-mail was out for a few days. Thanks for tracking me down!

a song's name & artist
Date: July 9, 2007
A few months ago on your 80's show, you played a song that has the phrase " I'll never look into your blue
eyes again " in it. I've searched by that phrase and cant find it. Who is the artist and the name of the song? Please
help, thanks and I love your show.
Hi! The track you heard was "Fly High
Michelle" by Enuff Z-Nuff. It's a great song. Here's a link to the lyrics on their website. If you live near
Pryor, OK, you can see them play this weekend at Rocklahoma! http://www.enuffznuff.com/site/lyrics/0103.shtml
Best Wishes, Martha p.s. You might have to cut and paste the link.

Dear Ms. Quinn,
I wanted to take a minute to let you know how much
I've enjoyed your Sirius show. It has grown into my favorite hour of listening, and oh how I wish it were longer
than one mere hour per week, but that aside, I really appreciate the diversity of your track selection. No one else
seems to remember that Stars on 45 hit from way back, but there it was on your show a while back - and that's only one
example of the "I can't believe how long it was since I heard that" effect that I've constantly experienced
while listening to your program. Inasmuch as I will always have a soft spot for the obvious pop Top 40 of the
decade, I'm glad to be able to hear everything else that was still relevant at the time (yet fell between the cracks as
time wore past). I am grateful that you remember so well how it was to Be in the Decade of Me, and it makes my lifetime
subscription all the more worth it.
On a related note, I wanted to address a question you raised on this week's
show, which concerned the original version of the Fixx's "Red Skies." You are right about there being
two versions. The original, 'lost' version of the song you remember from Shuttered Room has long been supplanted
by the 1987 re-recording from the React album (the version on their Greatest Hits record from 1989 is indeed the 1987 recording).
The good news is that Shuttered Room has been released on CD several times, and it is readily available at Amazon. (I
actually have the original CD release from the mid-1980's, MCAD-5345 same number as the record, and Lord knows nobody's
going to remember when that thing came out...) In any case, it would have been great to hear the original version of
"Red Skies" on your show. And while you're at it, the original "Stand or Fall" wouldn't
be a bad idea either. Just my two cents.
BTW, I also wanted to ask one other thing. I was just curious
if you could send me a photograph of yourself, or if you have an address where I could send a request. Your show is
the best thing to happen to my radio every weekend, and it would be an honor if I could get your autograph. Thanks again
for all the wonderful memories.
Sincerely, Rich

Dear Martha,
I was surprised by your response to
my email but I guess accepting aging, especially in the U.S., cuts across many divides.
I think there's
still a big difference between the sexes. Saturday afternoon, my husband strolled out of the bathroom, unaware that
I was reading your posting, and announced that he likes his grey hair, that he thinks he looks "handsome".
And I have to admit he does...What part of this whole matter is attitude?
Here's part of the glitch that
I see: Many of us rejected intervention years ago and now we have to re-evaluate our situation. We looked at some U.S.
women, stretched tight as a bongo but with swollen lips, compared them to some European women (Sophia Loren comes to mind
first) and quickly concluded that aging naturally was better, actually and on principle.
Never mind that
most of us didn't start out like a Loren at all! Or that maybe she had been "assisted". We were so proud
of Helen Mirren at the Oscars but I think she just used really good judgement in her cosmetic work. And Virginia Madsen
is Botox's new spokesperson!
Anyway, I'm hanging in there right now, haven't done anything and
don't want to but now I can foresee it becoming a bigger question down the road.
Looking forward to your
report, Monya

Hi Martha,
Especially enjoy your blog but what happened with the cosmetic work thread?! What happened? Were you
happy? I think your dilemma is something that a lot of aging people struggle with and I wanna hear what happened, dammit!
Thanks, Monya
Hey Monya!!!!!
I'm so glad you wrote to me! I kinda cooled on the cosmetic thing 'cause
ABSOLUTELY NO ONE responded
so I figured well, what the hell, I'm not so sure I
want to spill all the beans if, you know, no one gives a rat's

But Monya, you have re-ignited my flame. What you said about this being
a dilemma many are struggling

I will polish up my piece

Sometimes I listen on my computer and sometimes I find myself just wanting to take a ride around town and listen to the music
I love. It really takes me back to some great times in my life.
Keep doing watcha been doin

Always admired his musical ability and artistic talent as well. Thank's again and Rock On!.......Kevin. P.S.

Martha,
I just discovered your show
this morning! I typically listen to the 70’s station, but it’s raining here today, and the 70’s was
bringing me down. I was so pleasantly surprised when I heard your voice on the 80’s station.
I
am a big fan – ever since I first started watching you on MTV. Those were fun memories, watching for hours on
end until my favorite video would come on. I haven’t watched MTV again since those teenage years in the early
80’s. I can’t remember what my favorite video was; about the only one I can remember is the ZZ Top Legs
video.
I read your blog on “The View”, and I agree you’d make a great replacement for Rosie.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Rachel from Connecticut

Dearest Martha...
I grew up with you in the 80's and watched you during MTV's Finest times...
Now I listen
to your show and the other fine MTV V J's on Sirius Satellite Radio.
I have always been a song buff and have always
liked to hear the history of the artist on the radio and where they are now...
One of the features of Satellite
radio is you can view the name of the artist while they are playing the song.. a magnificent feature that the 80's
radio didn't have.
If I may make a request...? During your show throughout the show I am not able to see the title
of the song being played... Only Marthaquinnpresents.com shows up..
Could you please let me and the
other 80's maniacs see the titles of the wonderful music that you all put so much effort into playing for us.
...Another thing I forgot to mention is that I cannot save a particular song on your show because there is no separation
between songs , therefore only allowing me to only record your entire show, taking up my drive space on the Stiletto receiver...
Again.. you are doing a great job bringing back the wonderful memories of the 80's.
Keep up the Good
Work!!
Best Regards,
David

Hi David!
Glad to get your feedback here at Marthaquinnpresents.com!
Regarding the song titles, I know it's a pain they don't show up on the screen.
Fortunately and unfortunately, I'm kind of a Sirius outlaw. The songs I play are my own copies and aren't part of
the Sirius generated songs that have the titles encoded into whatever format they use.
That's why I created this website, so I could have some way to get the song titles out there!
As far as the one track thing-I guess that's because our songs transition seamlessly,
DJ-style, from one to the next. Yikes!
I hope you'll continue to hang
out anyway!
Thanks again for writing,
Martha

it suddenly occurred to me, 'What ever happened to Martha
Quinn?" Immediately I thought of how strange it must be to somehow be relegated to 80's trivia or a "What
ever happened to...?" type of thought process, but, nonetheless, good for me, good for the fans, that you ARE TRULY STILL
OUT THERE...after having googled you, I was sooo glad to see there's a way to listen to you, to see you, and to send tyou
this e-mail(not that you should respond), but hurray for 2 things:
1. Technology
allows me to find out in an instant that not only are you still alive and well, but to tune in to this new-fangled radio medium
to get my fix of Martha Quinn in the 21st century and....
2. Seeing
as how I never got over my mid 80's crush on Martha Quinn or the seemingly abrupt change of music television from the
90's blur to the hip-hop scurge, I can now pick up my fan-ness where it left off and see about a subscription to Sirius(maybe)
and tell people it certainly has nothing to do with Howard Stern but with my need for a Martha Quinn fix.

Martha!
I've had a crush on you since we first got cable, around 1983. We were out in the country, and late getting cable,
but once we did, I would rush home from school just to watch you. What has happened to MTV since then? I know
I sound like everybody's dad when I say it, but, my daughter had it on the other day, and I wanted to cancel our cable
right away. It's horrrible!
Anyways, I hope that when XM and Sirius merge, that I finally get to
hear your voice again. I bought XM for their Air America coverage, but I might have gotten Sirius if I had known you
were on it.

Hey Kyle,
Thanks for writing! The 2/17 playlist should be:
Inxs - Kicks
ABC - How To Be A Millionaire
Police
- Message In A Bottle
Power Station/Kingdom Come - Get It On
David Bowie - Ashes To Ashes
Sisters Of Mercy/Peter
Schilling - Temple Of Love/Major Tom
Rolling Stones - Waiting On A Friend
Nick Lowe - Cruel To Be Kind
Twisted
Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
Living Color - Cult Of Personality
Roxy Music - Avalon
Tears For Fears
- Head Over Heals
ZZ Top - Got Me Under Pressure
Does this seem like the set you heard?
Thanks!
Martha
Not quite...The one song that really stuck out was Video
Killed the
Radiostar, it kinda sounded like a remix...Although I am not sure I
have heard the whole uncut version
of the song, so I may be mistaken.
Although I know it wasn't exactly like the video cut of the song....
Thanks again for all of your time!
~Kyle
P.S. I really enjoy your show and
'thought' I knew the 80's fairly well...
OK, let's
try this one: from your
description of "Video"...this should be the elusive playlist. Here goes:
David Lee Roth Just Like Paradise
Erasure/Buggles/Martha Video Killed The Radio Star
LL Cool J Goin'
Back to Cali
Dave California Girls
Katrina and The Waves Walking On Sunshine
Eddie Grant Electric Avenue
AC/DC Girls Got Rhythm
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince Parents Just Don't Understand
Hanoi Rocks Malibu
Beach Nightmare
Kenny Loggins I'm Alright
Prince Purple Rain
Deep Purple Perfect Strangers
Tom Tom
Club Genius Of Love
Thompson Twins Lies
Slade Run Runaway
The Ramones Do You Remember Rock 'N Roll Radio
Let me know if that seems to be it!!!
Thanks, Martha
PERFECT! That would be the playlist! Thank you for the perseverance on
this, it means alot to me
as a listener. Keep up the good work! Now,
